Another King James Bible Believer

Subtitle

Titus 2:11 Does the grace of God BRING salvation or OFFER salvation?

Vatican Versions lean more and more towards Arminianism - Titus 2:11;  2 Peter 3:9 and 1 Timothy 2:4.

Titus 2:11

King James Bible - For the grace of God that BRINGETH salvation hath appeared to all men”

There are two things to consider in this verse.  First, see how God uses the words “all men”.  It refers to “all men” without distinction of nationality, whether it be Jew or Gentile.

Does "all men" mean "everybody" or "all men without exception" or "all men without distinction?

Titus 2:11 KJB - For the grace of God that BRINGETH salvation hath appeared to all men

So read Tyndale, the Geneva Bible, the RV, ASV, NASB, NKJV, ESV, NET, Holman Standard,  MEV, AND the NIV 1973, 1978 and 1984 editions.

However, the NIV 2011 edition NOW reads “For the grace of God has appeared that OFFERS salvation to all people.”

The only other Bible version I am aware of that also reads this way is the Roman Catholic St. Joseph New American bible 1970. It also says: “The grace of God has appeared, OFFERING salvation to all men.”

Eugene Peterson’s The Message is just as bad. It says “Salvation’s available for everyone!”

There is only one Greek word here that is found only one time in the New Testament that is translated as “bringeth salvation”. It is the same in all texts. It is sooteerios - σωτηριος

According to the Greek Lexicons it means “bringing salvation” or “saving”.

Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament 1889 on page 612 defines sooteerios as meaning “saving, bringing salvation.”

A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, by William F. Arndt and F. Wilbur Gingrich 1957 on page 809 gives the definition of this Greek word as “saving, delivering, preserving, bringing salvation.”

God’s grace is effective and accomplishes his purpose.  God is not a Failure or a Liar for not doing what he said he came to do.

“Thou shalt call his name JESUS; for HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS.”  Matthew 1:21

“God WHO HATH SAVED US, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to HIS OWN PURPOSE AND GRACE, WHICH WAS GIVEN US IN CHRIST JESUS BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN.” 2 Timothy 1:9

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because GOD HATH FROM THE BEGINNING CHOSEN YOU TO SALVATION through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14.

Moreover whom he did PREDESTINATE, them he also CALLED: and whom he called, them he also JUSTIFIED: and whom he justified, them he also GLORIFIED. Romans 8:30

Now let’s look at two more examples found in many of today’s "bible" versions that nobody believes are the inerrant words of God.

2 Peter 3:9 KJB (and many others as we will soon see) - “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to US-ward, NOT WILLING that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

ISV (NASB, NET, Catholic Douay) - “… but is patient toward you, NOT WISHING  that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

NIV - (Holman Standard, Catholic St. Joseph New American bible, New Jerusalem bible) - “Instead he is patient with you, NOT WANTING anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

These “bible” versions that tell us God WANTS, or DESIRES or WISHES all men to be saved and not to perish actually end up making God some kind of a cosmic schizophrenic who is at cross purposes with himself, who doesn’t really know what he wants.  Just read the second half of this study on 2 Peter 3:9 to see why this would be so.

I Timothy 2:3-5 KJB -  "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who WILL HAVE ALL MEN TO BE SAVED, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."

ESV, NASB, NKJV - " who DESIRES all people to be saved”

NIV - "who WANTS all people to be saved”

Holman Standard, CBS - “who WANTS EVERYONE to be saved”

Undeniable Proof the ESV, NASB, NIV, Holman Standard, NET, Jehovah Witness NWT, etc. are the New Vatican Versions.”

If you have a copy of the Nestle-Aland 27th edition, open the book and read what they tell us in their own words on page 45 of the Introduction. Here these critical Greek text editors tell us about how the Greek New Testament (GNT, now known as the UBS) and the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece grew together and shared the same basic text.In the last paragraph on page 45 we read these words:

"The text shared by these two editions was adopted internationally by Bible Societies, and FOLLOWING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE VATICAN AND THE UNITED BIBLE SOCIETIES IT HAS SERVED AS THE BASIS FOR NEW TRANSLATIONS AND FOR REVISIONS MADE UNDER THEIR SUPERVISION. THIS MARKS A SIGNIFICANT STEP WITH REGARD TO INTERCONFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS.
